Toyota’s Corolla, Prius and Camry were among the top 5 sellers in the government’s trade-in program, Cash for Clunkers.

According to government data, the Corolla was the No. 2 selling car, while the new Generation 3 Prius was in the No. 4 slot, followed by the No. 5 Camry. 

VehiclesTEST participating dealers also noted that the Yaris was a big seller, thought the Yaris was not in the top 10. 

The list of hot sellers indicates that consumers are buying more fuel-efficient vehicles than most people expected.

New Toyota Powerplant Efficient

VehiclesTEST took the 2010 Toyota Tundra to the track recently and put the new 4.6-liter V-8 engine through a complete workout and video review. The efficient powerplant resulted in an actual highway fuel economy number of 17.7 mpg during our testing, which beat the EPA estimate by 4.1%. The new Tundra engine puts out 310 horsepower, and 327-pound-feet of torque, and provides a towing capacity of more than 7,000 pounds.

The new engine gives Toyota dealers and Tundra buyers an alternative to the stout 5.7-liter V8. VehiclesTEST has tested the Tundra with both engines. To tow more than 10,000 pounds, you need the bigger engine. If not, the 4.6-liter engine will save money at the pump. Watch the Tundra video test.
